HALO Sri Lanka now employs 1000 staff
HALO Sri Lanka has expanded its demining operations to over 1,000 Sri Lankan staff working to clear minefields and support follow-on development in the three worst mine and ERW affected provinces of Jaffna, Kilinochchi and Mullaitivu.
Over 700 staff are recently returned IDPs of which over 200 are females. This expansion of the programme will allow HALO to maintain the mine clearance momentum and speed up clearance of the high priority minefields. With most of the resettlement now completed in northern Sri Lanka, many communities depend on deminers to clear the minefields so they can use the land once again to sustain their livelihoods.
This expansion of the programme would not have been possible without generous support from our donors. HALO would like to thank the Governments of the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Norway, Japan, Australia, Canada and the European Commission (ECHO) for their continued support to Sri Lanka.
